The OMV Slideshow Program
by Robert Jung
Lawyer Stuff
============
The computer files OMVSLIDE.PRG, OMVSLIDE.RSC, and OMVSLIDE.DOC (this text
file) are all Copyright 1989 by Robert A. Jung; All rights reserved. They may
be freely distributed and copied, as long as all of the files are all
together and unmodified from their original state.
"ANOTHER Slideshow???"
======================
Why another slideshow program? There's plenty of other good stuff out there
already. However, my biggest reason for writing this (aside from having
something to do) was to assemble a package containing feautres I'd like in
a slideshow, that nobody else has incorporated.
The OMV Slideshow thus features:
* Mixing of color DEGAS, DEGAS Elite, and Neochrome pictures
* Special effects picture-to-picture transitions
* "Store demo" keyboard lock-out -- Suitable for dealers and shows
Running the Show
================
Using the slideshow is easy! Execute OMVSLIDE.PRG as any other ST program,
and follow the dialog boxes. The program is self-explainatory.
The OMV Slideshow will find pictures in all of the drives you specify it to
search. Only pictures with extenders of .PI1, .PI2, .PC1, .PC2, and .NEO will
be shown. On each drive, the Slideshow will search down to two directories
(folders) deep -- If a picture is nested deeper than two directories, it will
be ignored.
When the show is running, you can control it (except with store demo mode --
See below) with the following keys:
Space Bar -- Pause/Unpause the current picture
Return -- Show the next picture
Help -- Stop the show, return to the main dialog
Undo -- Stop the show, exit the program
F1 to F10 -- How long does a picture stay before the next one
appears. The delays are
F1 = No delay F2 = 2 seconds F3 = 5 seconds
F4 = 10 seconds F5 = 15 seconds F6 = 20 seconds
F7 = 30 seconds F8 = 40 seconds F9 = 50 seconds
F10 = 1 minute
Store Demo Mode
===============
Store Demo Mode (SDM), if selected, causes the OMV Slideshow to run completely
closed. Once started, SDM cannot be stopped or affected in any way; The only
way to stop the slideshow is to turn the computer off. This feature was added
to help demonstrate the ST in stores and at shows, without having the computer
interrupted by curious children and passersby.
If you choose SDM, a warning appears, asking you to confirm your decision.
Also, you can choose the time delay between pictures at this point; Since SDM
locks out keyboard input, none of the keys will work.
La Fin
======
That's it. Short, simple, and free. There are a few things that can be
improved, though (don't I know it):
* Monochrome support. Ths OMV Slideshow could be modified to handle
monochrome monitors very easily. However, do people like black and white
pictures as much as color ones? Is there a demand for mono support? Let me know!
* Color cycling. Picture color cycling effects are not in the current version
of the slideshow due to technical problems -- The process of updating colors
is too slow. (I suspect a machine-language VBI is needed, but since I'm not a
68000 assembler programmer...)
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this program, and I hope you help me get it spread
around. If you want to drop me some ideas, feedback, criticisms, questions, or
whatever, you can write:
